Venus of Karbabad
Created for Photos à la Chair, 30th Edition
Bahrain, November 2025
Photos à la Chair is a community photography project in Bahrain by Camille Zakharia and Ali Karimi. Each winter, an invited artist selects a location around the island and creates a temporary installation where members of the public are photographed.
For the 30th edition, I was invited to create a new installation. I chose a quad bike track by Karbabad Beach, one of my favourite spots in Bahrain. I've always been drawn to places like this that feel slightly strange, a little improvised, and somehow in between. It sits between the sea and the skyline of Seef, and feels like a part of Bahrain that's slowly disappearing.

Much of my practice is concerned with small disruptions that shift our sense of what is real. I'm interested in the strangeness that hides in plain sight, when something familiar begins to feel slightly off. This installation continues that exploration.
As of 2026, the quad bike track has been removed.
