Sukoon - Art Installation Proposal (2024)
I was invited to propose an art installation for a cultural exhibition in the GCC, and the concept grew out of my own search for solace. Inspired by Sukoon, the Islamic idea of profound tranquility, the work reflects a year of personal loss and collective grief - a time when I found myself yearning for a deeper sense of calm.
The installation is a quiet space, built around sound, light, and nature. At its heart is the human voice, explored in collaboration with a choir. Their collective sound draws on the spiritual and physical power of remembrance, offering a sense of connection and healing. Surrounding this are a curated selection of plants, simple reminders of how nature provides comfort in its own timeless way.
This project is about finding stillness. It’s a place for reflection, for healing, and for discovering what sukoon means to each of us.
