Women Who Dance with the Sea
This project is the beginning of a deeply personal, long-term journey to document the strength and beauty of women and girls of color surfers in Asia and Africa.
Surfing has long been a space dominated by a single narrative, but the tides are changing. More women of color, myself included, are finding our place on the waves, whether for competition or pure passion. My mission is to capture and celebrate this growing diversity, focusing on the stories of women and girls of color over the coming years.
The journey began in Bali in 2024, with the incredible Dhea Natasya, a young Muslim Indonesian surfer and longboard champion, and her dedicated student, Priscilla 'Cilla' Sianipar. As I continue this work, I’m looking to connect with women and girls around the world who are redefining what it means to be a surfer. If you’re one of them, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s create something powerful and beautiful together.
